Job Description

Product Engineers are responsible for developing and maintaining high yielding, dimensionally sound, and manufacturing efficient processes. They must be able to mentor less experienced engineers in areas such as: wax die core positioning, external to internal dimensional relationships, process capability statistical analyses, tooling design and build instruction, casting airflow, and reforming techniques.



Responsibilities

  • Casting dimensional control
    • Well versed in GD&T as well as dimensional layout techniques, including structured light – bluelight and/or whitelight as well as CMM inspection.
    • Ability to communicate and interpret inspection criteria and data with inspectors and customer design engineers.
    • Statistically evaluate dimensional data to define improvement opportunities.
    • Thorough understanding of casting datum systems is required .
  • Ceramic core visual and dimensional control
    • Communicate effectively with core suppliers.
    • Understand and develop statistically derived dimensional inspection criteria.
  • Apply casting B/P limits to core visual quality.
  • Lead development projects (NPI) and deliver on time.
  • Confidently lead casting dimensional and/or tolling discussions with CCTC customers.
  • Review customer specifications and blueprints to determine the procedures, testing, and routing sequences required to meet the dimensional requirements
  • Utilizes process knowledge, basic engineering principles, previous experience, and creativity as necessary to develop processes that result in the production of quality castings that conform to customer specifications and time tables.
  • Develop new technology to support plant initiatives.
  • Reviews all layouts, tool reworks, and tool construction as necessary to ensure consistency and repeatability of process results.
  • Successfully team with CCTC process and quality engineers to meet customer milestones.


Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • B/S in Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or other related fields of experience.
  • Minimum of five years experience aerospace investment casting; especially, cored and solid IGT blades/vanes.
  • Proven track record of part development and delivering projects on time.

 Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret blueprints, customer specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

 Mathmatical Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Experience in Dimensional Dtatistical Capability Studies is a prerequisite.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to organize efficient engineering trials, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be computer literate. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and 3D modeling software (Unigraphics) as well as Minitab are essential.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms,  talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet in office areas to very loud in the manufacturing environment.
