Job Description

Looking for a Maintenance Mecahnic in our Colusa, CA facility. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure work is performed based on daily/weekly/monthly/annually work schedules within your department. Processing is a 24/7 activity during the harvest season.
  • To keep shop area clean at all times and completely clean up any area that you are working in at the end of the shift and/or upon completion of project.

Repairs and Maintenance on Food Contact Equipment.

  1. Coordinate with the Mill Lead production shut down time for repairs and maintenance.
  2. Secure area with yellow and/or red caution tape and cones (if needed).
  3. Make sure tools are clean before performing on the equipment.
  4. Take inventory of all tools that will be used before performing maintenance on equipment.
  5. Make sure equipment is locked out.
  6. Only food grade lubricants are to be used on food processing and packaging equipment or on any other equipment where incidental contact may occur.
  7. When maintenance is completed on the equipment, an inventory of the tools, nuts and bolts shall be done in order to ensure nothing was left in the equipment.
  8. The area and equipment shall be cleaned up and Sanitation and Quality Assurance shall inspect to ensure proper cleaning was done.

Repairs and Maintenance on Non-food Contact Equipment.

  1. Secure area with yellow and/or red caution tape and cones (if needed).
  2. Take inventory of all tools that will be used before performing maintenance on equipment.
  3. Make sure equipment is locked out.
  4. Complete Pre-Start Check Sheet (Form 0732) if maintenance work performed was over a potential Product Contamination Point.
  5. When maintenance is completed on the equipment, an inventory of the tools, nuts and bolts shall be done and area cleaned up.
  • Bring to the immediate attention of operator, shift leader, or production supervisor any situation where product could be compromised that could affect quality or safety. i.e. spilling oil into product, metal shaving getting into the product etc.
  • Responsible to perform work which meets an acceptable level of quality. i.e. proper installation of parts in accord with manufacturers recommendations.
  • Installation of new equipment and structures shall follow the Sanitary Design Program (SOP 0526).
  • Responsible to perform tasks assigned as instructed, inform production supervisor of the affected areas of any issues that may come up.
  • Responsible for knowing the proper storage procedures of parts for food contact equipment and non-food contact equipment.
  • Responsible for knowing and understand the function of the mill and packaging equipment.
  • Responsible to repair, install and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Responsible to assist where needed in case of equipment failure in order to minimize product loss.
  • Operate fork lift safety and adhere to the fork lift safety rules and perform fork lift inspections.
  • Responsible to repair fork lifts and other vehicles.
  • Responsible to perform extensive repair on mill equipment. i.e. conveyors, augers, elevators, bearing etc.
  • Complete the required section of the Work Order Request (form 0514) and the Maintenance Work Order Log.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company standards and established safety procedures.
  • Demonstrates positive and a can-do attitude, confidence, endurance and constructively handle conflicts.
  • Must be available off-schedule at times and work well with the schedule demands of a 24/7 seasonal food processing facility.
  • Work alongside others or independently to complete projects
  • Work with fellow Supervisors and Technicians to accomplish the goals of not only your department but the goals of InHarvest.
  • Follow lock out tag out procedures.
  • Follow InHarvest and Accident Prevention Rules.
  • Following GMP’s.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

This position requires a person experienced and/or ability in the following:

  • Experience in food manufacturing (Prefer 5 years minimum)
  • Good communication skills relating to employee
  • Be familiar with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Predictive Maintenance, Five-S methodology, and Kaizen.
  • Must have own tools and tool storage box.
  • Have basic knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulic systems and internal combustion engines.
  • Must be able to operate any tools or equipment which are common to the trade.
  • To troubleshoot equipment or vehicle failures.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Have knowledge to perform basic maintenance of mill equipment. i.e. replace drive belts, spice conveyor belts, change bearings, and change electric motors.
  • Must perform all other duties which are associated with mill work.
  • Knowledge of Lock out Tag out Procedures, HACCP, GMP’s, Organic Handling Procedures, Allergen Control Program, Food Plant Security, Glass and Hard Plastic, Quality related policies, and Safety programs, and make sure plant operations are complying with those programs.
  • Dependable and flexible to rotate shifts and work overtime.
