Job Description

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for a role in Sumterville, FL. This position is required to follow instruction from the maintenance supervisor and is responsible for knowing and following all safety policies including lockout methods and procedures. Will be required to assist in training other mechanics. This position is responsible for the troubleshooting, repair and upkeep of the tile plant machinery including auxiliary equipment. Must be able to read downtime reports and follow checklists to make proper repairs daily, as well as, report in writing or verbally the repairs needed and the parts or equipment required to the supervisor. Maintenance of the Line is expected to be accurate, preventive and done in a timely manner. Must treat people with respect, work ethically, with integrity, accept responsibility for own actions and uphold organization vision, values and objectives. Must work well with coworkers.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

SAFETY NOTE: LOCKOUT PROCEDURE IS TO BE IMPLEMENTED PRIOR TO ANY CLEANING OR PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE REPAIRS OR WORK ON EQUIPMENT

  • Follow checklist procedures
  • Read downtime reports and conduct the necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Must troubleshoot, identify problems and make proper repairs
  • Remove and replace motors/parts
  • Disassemble and rebuild motors
  • Identify and repair or replace worn parts
    • Chains, sprockets, gear box, rope, pulleys, etc
  • Responsible for work and repairs on any part of the Line
    • Tile machine, grouper, racker, cars, packager, etc
  • Clean the Line before any repair or maintenance
  • Follow all safety guidelines at all times
  • Assist and train personnel as assigned

 

Communication:

  • Understand and follow direction from supervisor
  • Report verbally or written to supervisor on all repairs or parts needed
  • Interact with and assist and train other mechanics
  • Interact with line workers to identify malfunctions
  • Read downtime reports, checklists, and proper settings in English


Qualifications

Must have five years experience in mechanical work preferably on production machinery. Must meet productivity standards, complete work in a timely manner, and strive to increase productivity. Must be on time as scheduled each day and clock in and out for each shift and rest period. Must supply own hand tools (wrenches, hammer, screwdrivers etc, refer to list). Must have good skills in general mechanics and be able to troubleshoot and repair the complete tile line independently, within a timely matter (90 introductory period).

The mechanic must be able to perform the following requirements proficiently and independentl

  • Must have skill in welding
  • Skill in cutting with gas torch
  • Skill in removing and replacing motors
  • Knowledge of fundamental electrical work
  • Experience with conveyers, mixing systems, extrusion
  • Must be able to troubleshoot
  • Skill in alignment and adjustment
  • Extensive knowledge of hand tools and their uses, drill bit sizes, etc
  • Skill in using air tools and electrical hand tools
  • Knowledge of and trouble shooting skills in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic areas of manufacturing, clutch brakes, and motorized systems

Physical: Must have Ability to

  • Lift/carry 35-50 pounds and up to 100 pounds
  • Bend, kneel and twist throughout the shift
  • Apply torque up to 50 pounds
  • Stand on feet 8-10 hours a day, 6-7 days a week
  • Lift and use all tools properly
  • Hear machine malfunctions
  • Visually identify worn parts
  • Must be capable of perceiving and understanding, above ambient noise and light levels, the production line starting alarm and forklift horns/ reverse alarms.

Safety:

  • Wear ear plugs, back brace and gloves when necessary
  • Know all safety procedures for each machine, tool and chemical used
  • Attend all safety training (and the once a month meetings)
  • Must address safety issues at work station immediately to supervisor
  • Must have full knowledge of safety lockout procedures
  • Must report accidents and injuries within 24 hours to management
  • Must follow all safety requirements and training at all times
  • Must follow lockout procedures on any cleaning or work done on the machinery
  •  Must wear helmet, safety goggles and steel toed shoes at all times

Other: Must have

  • Knowledge of tools and their uses (grinders, ratchets, drills, etc)
  • Ability to drive a forklift and be certified within 90 days
  • Ability to read English (downtime reports and checklists)
  • Skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Knowledge of decimal equivalencies
  • Knowledge of how to read a tape measure, micrometer, voltage meter and caliper

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor facility that is not air-conditioned or heated
  • Some outside repairs on sand conveyor systems
  • Up to 4 hours overtime a day may be required
  • May be asked to work 6-7 days a week
  • May be asked to work different shifts (day-night)
  • Can be placed on call
  • Dirty with cement and sand dust in the air
  • Uncomfortable working situations, not uncommon
  • Required to wear issued uniform properly
  • Loud and heavy machinery

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Must possess the communication skills, both verbal and written, needed to relay information to all other employees in a professional, positive and constructive manner, such that all communication is clear, concise and conclusive.

  • Must work harmoniously with all personnel, including all other departments, and follow all company rules, regulations and procedures.
