The CMM Operator will process simple to complex inspections utilizing the existing programs on a computer assisted coordinate measuring (CMM) machines for inspection and program parts that do not have an existing program.
Responsibilities
- Set-up and run CMM programs. Work from process sheets and instructions from supervisor.
- Procure appropriate blueprints and layout sheets. Uses Wenzel BI-1200, Wenzel LH-1512, & a Sheffield Measurement Cordax RS-170 DCC. CMM’s with 1 MM to 5 MM styluses in addition to standard clamps and fixtures for locating parts on the table.
- Calibrate stylus and enter in computer appropriate program number. When the job is completed, stamp inspection report, staple to process traveler and sign off where appropriate on traveler.
- Write simple to complex computerized measuring machine (CMM) programs for all products and submit a detailed report of all results to engineering and manufacturing.
- Follow prescribed procedures to shut down CMM equipment at the end of the shift.
- Ensure that CMM’s are running at peak performance and that all required maintenance is performed on schedule. Work closely with engineering on new products.
- Detect faulty operations and faulty material and report these and any other problems to immediate supervisor.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work area.
- Comply with all safety regulations. Wear necessary protective equipment as required.
- Perform all other similar or related duties as required and/or directed within own or other work areas.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Use of advanced trades mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, personal computer and software application programs of a technical nature involving a through technical skills knowledge plus the application of basic theory.
- Equivalent to a complete accredited apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft or occupation; or equivalent to a 2-year technical college education.
- A strong understanding and working experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.

Working Conditions:
- Good shop working conditions. Exposed to any number of elements, but none present to the extent of being disagreeable.
